Party Mode Player's Guide

Welcome to Party Mode! This guide will explain how to set up and play the most competitive and social way to experience Sequence.

What is Party Mode?

Party Mode is designed for groups of friends in the same room. It turns music trivia into a high-stakes strategy game where you can watch your friends' moves in real-time and even "steal" songs from them if they make a mistake.

Getting Started

1. The Host (The DJ)

One player must act as the Host.

2. Joining the Party

Up to 8 players can join a room.

How to Play

Turn-Based Action

Players take turns being the Active Player.

The Challenge Mechanic (The "Steal")

This is where the game gets intense. If you think the Active Player is about to place a song in the wrong spot, you can challenge them.

  1. Wait for the Drop: Once the Active Player drops their card, it is "locked."
  2. The 5-Second Window: You have 5 seconds to tap the "Challenge" button.
  3. The Cost: Challenging costs 2 Points.
  4. The Submission: If you challenge, you have 15 seconds to pick a different slot on the timeline where you think the song actually belongs.
  5. Resolution:
    • Active Player is Correct: They keep the card. You lose your 2 points.
    • Active Player is Wrong: They get a strike. If YOU picked the correct slot, you "steal" the card for your own timeline and get your 2 points back!

Tips for Success

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why isn't music playing on my phone?

A: In Party Mode, only the Host's device plays audio. This prevents echoing and ensures everyone is hearing the exact same part of the song at the same time.

Q: How many people can play?

A: A room supports 1 Host and up to 8 Participants (9 people total).

Q: Do I need a Spotify Premium account?

A: No. While the game uses music data, the audio is handled by the app's integrated player. Only the Host needs to have the app open and ready.

Q: What happens if two people challenge the same song?

A: Multiple people can challenge! However, each specific empty slot on the timeline is "first-come, first-served." If someone else already picked the slot you wanted, you'll have to pick a different one or cancel your challenge.

Q: How do I win?

A: The first player to reach 10 songs on their timeline wins the game! Bonus points for Artist and Song Name guesses also count toward your final score ranking.

Q: My friend is taking too long to guess. Is there a timer?

A: Yes! The Active Player has a limited time to place their card. If they run out of time, it counts as an incorrect guess, and the "Challenge" window opens for everyone else.
